10 Easy ways to elevate your outfit in Summer.

Summer is here in South Africa, and sometimes with the heat you just want to prioritise comfort and your Signature Style goes out of the window.

Here are 10 simple ways to elevate your outfit when layering is not always an option.

1/ It is easy to play with necklaces and accumulate them. Preferably choose locally made pieces that are light weight and that you can mix and match.

The plainer the dress is the bolder you can go!

2/ Bring in colours and just be Bold.

It is always good to have an idea of your WOW colours before you try some bold options. Knowing if Warm or Cool colours, Light or Dark, Muted or Bright colours are best for you will help you play with this look.

3/ Wear colourful shoes.

If you are normally hesitant to wear colourful pumps or sneakers in winter, summer is definitely the right time to try it.

I love wearing sneakers with dresses or skirts.

4/ Wear a belt on your oversize top.

Although we want to be comfortable as the temperature rises, it is important to keep a certain balance in your silhouette. Belting an oversize top gives the impression of the waist, defines and enhances the silhouette. It also hides your tummy area.

So this look is definitely a winner!

5/ Wear a short necklace on a V top.

Whether it is a statement piece or smaller pendant keep it short.

If you have a fuller bust then you may want try to wear a longer pendant.

6/ Add a contrasting belt over a long cardigan.

We all have these longer shapeless cardigans in our wardrobe that we keep for cooler days, but we tend to wear them loose which adds a lot of bulk to the silhouette.

Try wearing them with a contrasting belt and see how easily it elevates your outfit.

7/ Wear contrasting colours .

Wearing a red dress is not always easy but adding a strong contrasting colour to red makes it less intimidating for others and makes you feel more confident.

8/ Add a brooch to a short plain dress.

By just adding a brooch to a simple plain dress, you draw the attention upwards and distract the eyes from maybe an area you are less confident in.

Be creative, there are lots of local talents around making one of a kind accessories for you to elevate your outfits.

9/ Mix and match patterns. (skirts and shoes)

I found animal prints match nicely with geometric and colourful pattern rather than flowers for example.

If you are new to animal prints, start with shoes. They are fun and easier to pair.

10/ Pair earrings and bold necklaces.

but only on occasions.

I usually prefer to wear either bold earrings on their own or a bold necklace on its own although sometimes and especially on a plain and simple outfit , it makes all the difference.

I hope this blog post will give you some inspiration to try out new ways to elevate your outfits.

Yours in Style,

HM xx
