10 Things to tackle in your wardrobe when seasons change.
Though many people consider spring to be a time of new beginnings, autumn is that for many people too.
For me, in the Southern Hemisphere, it is a time of reflection on the summer and the great memories that have been made since the beginning of the year online and in real life! (I am so grateful, every day.😍)
It is also a time when I go through my wardrobe and get it winter ready.
Here are 10 things I recommend you try to get your wardrobe ready for winter:
1/ Reflect on what you wore the most last summer.
Whatever it is , just try to understand why you wore them, Is it because of the shape, the colour, the comfort?
Could you have worn these items differently to get even more out of them?
As for me, I noticed that I wore a lot of dresses last summer and hardly no trousers. I realise that I feeI much more comfortable wearing dresses as I don’t feel tight around the tummy area.
I am definitely going to try and wear them differently in Autumn when the days are cooler.
2/ Go through the items you kept but never worn once last Summer, and I am sure there are a lot.
Why didn’t you wear them?
Is it the cut that is wrong for your Body shape, and somehow it is something you don’t feel comfortable wearing. Then, remove it, and pass it on.
Is it the colour that doesn’t do anything for you, makes you look tired and drains your complexion even if you are tanned? Then, remove it and pass it on.
Is it the size that is too small or too big? You can keep something that is slightly tight if you wishing to lose weight, but I always feel that it makes me feel unhappy and sad to keep something I can’t fit in. Then, remove it and pass it on.
3/ Go through your summer items and see if there are any that you can still wear differently in Winter, layering with warmer clothes . Get creative and get thinking of different ways.
5/ Take out your winter clothes and go through everything:
Take care of your sweaters and jerseys. What condition are they in? Maybe you can wash them and remove the piling on them? If there are holes, go find the same colour thread and mend them.
Take care of your whites. If you haven’t worn whites for a bit some yellow stains may appear. Soak them in Bicarbonate of soda and then wash them with a 40 degrees wash cycle.
6/ Take out of all accessories, necklaces, belts , socks. We too seldom go through them, and it is a useful exercise to do when we want to create different outfits and elevate our Style.
Are there necklaces, accessories, belts that are really old and you don’t want to wear, then Remove them, and pass it on,
Do you have a box of jewellery that you don’t wear because they are broken, but don’t want to get rid because of sentimental, find someone near you ( like me ) that could make new pieces with your beads, and give a new lease on life to your sentimental pieces. There are a lot of creatives people out there that can make magic! Trust them.
7/Create 10 new outfits for winter with what you have in your current wardrobe. Hang 1 outfit per hanger or take a photo so you can redo it when you need.
8/ Put some scented sachets or make your own essential oils mix to freshen your closet. I love mixing lemongrass, lemon and vetiver essential oils. Just use a few drops on a piece of cloth, watercolour paper or a tiny block of wood. and place it on your shelves.
9/ Think about ways to elevate your Style next season by wearing only clothes that make you feel and look amazing.
