Why colours make me happy!

Fantastic 50+ How to Look Stylish with Colorful Outfits Ideas ~ The colors have a very big influence.jpg

Why colours make me happy!

As far as I can remember, I have always been attracted to colours.

In nature, I always seem to be spotting the bright flowers first. In my Interior designer career, I am always  the one to choose to build colourful interior themes for my clients, but it is  only really when I turned 40 ( ages ago  ;) ), that I started to wear more colours.

Before that, I always used to go the safe black, navy, grey or white.

Well, reality is when you get older, wearing such colours is getting trickier as we need to enhance our complexion as we age and those colours don’t do it really.

It doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of all the navy, grey and black in your wardrobe but it means that if you wear them, you need to add something colourful ( top or accessories) next to your face to lift those colours and brighten and lighten your face.

Before I started to write my  first ever blogpost , I went to my wardrobe and had a good look at the colours there.

To my surprise, Black  is almost gone, except for a few  “petites robes noires”-little black dresses that I wear very ocasionnally and if I do it is always with statement jewelry.

Next to the black, there is quite a lot of blue, some green, a good chunk of yellow, some red and pinks  mostly in patterned fabric.

Let’s start with Blue.

For me , Blue inspires tranquility, security, calm and trust.

Wearing Blue helps me focus at work. I feel grounded and I have noticed that although I still wear a lot of my navy trousers or denim in winter, I always make an effort to wear a contrasting top, a colourful neckpiece, or dangling earings.

Blue is one of the easiest colour to accessorize.

My Tip:

Try wearing blue on a day you feel overwhelmed with the task at hand at work or in life in general.

My new passion is Yellow.

I always thought that Yellow was a difficult colour to wear and that it looked better on brunettes than on blondes. But I have come to realize that if you find your Yellow palette and you use it in small touches, it is actually a great colour to wear.

I love Yellow because it really makes me happy! It is bright, light, warm and Joyful.

Wearing Yellow brings my joyful - creative side to life.

My tip:

Try wearing yellow on days you feel stuck ,when you have woken up grumpy or when you feel sad.

My third Go-to colour is Green.

Although I don’t have a lot of green in my wardrobe, I do have scarves, necklaces and earings, that brightens up any black trousers or dress.

Green has strong associations with nature and immediately brings to mind the outdoor, the grass, and trees and makes me feel grounded, optimistic, and ready for new ideas.

Green is also associated with The Heart Chakra  ( worth asking Google what chakras are if you don’t know) which dominates all relationships included the one we have with ourselves.

When I wear green, I try to be more conscious of the way I treat myself ( mentally and physically) and others ( the planet, we say “go green” for a reason, and people around me).

My tip:

Try wearing Green when you feel drained and exhausted, it will give you the restful and soothing feeling you need, but also like the fresh plant emerging from the soil, it will give you that positive boost you need to start a new project.

To finish off let’s tackle Red and Pink.

I always had a love hate relationship with Reds and Pinks . I have always admired women or men wearing red with confidence, but every time I wore those colours I felt like it was too aggressive and it wasn’t for me.

Red is often associated with Love and strength.

Personnally , I have come to realize that if you wear the right shade of Red or Pink, it can do so much to enhance your complexion .

My go-to are watermelon and coral. They are vibrant and work for me.

My advice to start off with Reds and pinks is to stick to tops or scarves and wear darker colours for trousers or skirts.

Another crucial point is to find the right shade of lipstick and wear it everyday. Once you have found it , it will give you the right shade to wear as clothing.

 My Tip:

Wear Pink or Red when you feel you need a boost of femininity.
