5 ways to avoid Inspiration overload and stay true to your Style.

Do you find yourself not being able to make decisions because there is too much choice out there and too much inspiration on social media.

“Shall I get the white dress or the red dress?

Shall I paint this wall Elephant’s Breath or Stony point?

Shall I get This pendant or rather opt for a wall light?”

In the age of social media, platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Pinterest have become virtual treasure troves of inspiration, especially in the realms of fashion and interior design.

From stunning outfits to impeccably designed living spaces, these platforms offer a seemingly endless stream of creative ideas.

However, amidst the abundance of inspiration lies a common pitfall – the feeling of overwhelm.

And I am sure I am not the only one experiencing it !

Instead of sparking action, scrolling through these feeds often leads to comparisons and a sense of inadequacy.

Here are my ways to break free from this cycle of overwhelm and transform inspiration into tangible actions that enhance my life and help me stay true to my personal Style.

1.Embrace Imperfection

One of the main reasons we feel overwhelmed is the pressure to measure up to the seemingly flawless images we see online. Remember, what we see on social media is often curated and edited. Embrace imperfection and celebrate your unique style and taste. Recognize that your journey towards your ideal wardrobe or dream home is a process, not an instant transformation.

2. Curate Your Inspiration

Rather than mindlessly scrolling through endless feeds, curate your inspiration to align with your personal style and goals. Create mood boards or save posts that truly resonate with you and reflect the direction you want to take. Find what colours do you prefer to wear or for your room and how do they make you feel. Irrespective from the trends, start putting together ideas that really looks like YOU! Start by answering self centred questions rather than looking for what is available.

3. Take Imperfect Action

When I find myself overwhelmed when scrolling, the best remedy for me is to take action, even if it feels imperfect or uncertain. Don't wait for the perfect moment or the perfect idea. Start decluttering your wardrobe, experimenting with new outfit combinations, or exploring paint samples for your living room. Action breeds momentum, and each small step forward brings you closer to realizing your vision.

4. Set the next small steps

Instead of feeling daunted by the big picture, break down your aspirations into manageable tasks. Whether it's buying extra storage for your closet or looking for a new bedside table that work with your new bed, taking small steps will make the process less overwhelming and more achievable.

5. Practice Mindful Consumption

Be mindful of how much time you spend consuming content on social media. Set boundaries and allocate specific time slots for browsing platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. Instead of aimlessly scrolling, use this time intentionally to gather inspiration and ideas that fuel your creativity. Remember, quality over quantity.

Remember, it's not about achieving perfection, but about progress and enjoying the journey towards creating spaces and styles that truly reflect who we are. So, let's unstuck ourselves from overwhelm and embark on the fulfilling journey of turning inspiration into action.
