10 ways to refresh your Home in January
The start of a new year is the perfect time to breathe fresh energy into your home. Although I am already over New Year’s resolutions, I always feel better starting the year when I tweak a few things in my Home in January.
With a few simple updates, you can create a space that feels revitalized and inspiring without breaking the bank. Here are 10 easy ways to refresh your home this January.
1. Add Fresh Flowers
There’s nothing like fresh flowers to instantly brighten a room. Choose seasonal blooms in vibrant colors to bring life and fragrance into your home. A simple bouquet in the shop can lead you to become very creative when it comes to choosing the vessel. From an old glass jar, or empty Gin bottle to a local designer ceramic vase, get creative and display only a few flowers in each vase and spread the love throughout your home. Joy guaranteed!
2. Create a Gallery Wall
Reimagine your walls with a gallery display. Gather your favorite artwork, photos, or prints and arrange them in a cohesive layout. Whether you’re going for a symmetrical grid or an eclectic mix, a gallery wall is an easy way to add personality to your space.
3. Declutter and Restyle Shelves and Cupboards
Start the year with a clean slate by decluttering your shelves and cupboards. Remove items that no longer serve you and reorganize what remains. Restyle open shelving with curated displays of books, vases, candles and decorative objects for a polished look. Try gathering objects together so they can tell a story.
4. Upcycle Your Furniture
Give tired furniture a second life by upcycling. Sand down an old wooden table and refinish it with a fresh stain or paint.
Alternatively, reupholster chairs or sofas with a new fabric to update their look and feel. The start of the year is always a good time to decide which pieces in your home need some TLC and get it done later in the year. Remember so many professionals can help you so the project is not daunting.
5. Introduce Bolder Colors
A fresh coat of paint can work wonders. Choose a bold hue to create a statement wall or revive a tired piece of furniture. Don’t be afraid to experiment—a vibrant color can inject energy and personality into your home.
6. Switch Up Your Bedlinen
Transform your bedroom by changing your bedlinen, throws, and scatters. Opt for patterns or textures that resonate with the season, such as cozy knits or cheerful prints. Pair them with fresh scatter cushions to add layers and dimension.
7. Regroup Decorative Objects
Sometimes all it takes is rearranging what you already have. Gather decorative objects like candles, vases, and figurines, and group them on a tray for an elegant and cohesive display. Play with heights, textures, and colors to create visual interest.
8. Change Your Scatters
Swap out your scatter cushions for ones in new colors, patterns, or textures. This small change can dramatically alter the look and feel of your living room or bedroom, offering a quick seasonal refresh. Again try a new combination, something you haven’t tried before in your home.
9. Make a Vision Board
Start the year on a creative note by crafting a vision board. Use it to map out your home design dreams or other personal goals. Display it somewhere prominent to keep your inspirations front of mind throughout the year.
10. Embrace Upcycling
Give unused items a new purpose. Turn mason jars into chic storage, repurpose old frames for mirrors, or use leftover fabric to craft unique pillow covers. Upcycling is not only cost-effective but also a sustainable way to refresh your space.
Before buying new, think about what you already have and how you can use it differently.
January is the perfect time to reassess and reimagine your living space. By incorporating these small but impactful changes, you can create a home that feels fresh, inspiring, and uniquely yours. Which of these tips will you try first?
